LPZ Concept Overview

Create nested zones with decreasing electromagnetic stress.

Zone idea

Lightning Protection Zones (LPZ) describe volumes where the lightning electromagnetic environment is controlled. Each boundary can include shielding and SPDs.

Typical zones

LPZ 0A / 0B: outside, direct strike possible / not possible
LPZ 1: inside after first bonding/SPD boundary
LPZ 2+: further protected volumes for sensitive electronics

Design goal

Reduce surge current and field strength step by step toward critical loads.
